Waterfalls - Galboda Ella

Galboda Ella (Galboda Falls)

Galboda is important to travelers mainly because of Galboda waterfall. And also it is said that Galboda has the water with the highest gravity in South Asia. It is the tastiest too.

Galboda Falls is a very beautiful waterfall in Sri Lanka. Located in a quiet rural area it is quite hard to reach this amazing place in a private vehicle, but it is possible to reach there by a motorbike, a tuk-tuk or a vehicle with a good ground clearance.

Galboda Railway Station

Galboda Railway Station

But the easiest way is using the train. More than 95% of the visitors use the train. Is is the most convenient way. And in bonus, you get to experience an amazing train ride along the misty hills of the upcountry.

The view of the railway from above the hills
From the Railway Station to the waterfall you need to take a walk for about an hour. But you won't feel tired, becase the along the way you get a fascinating view. A climb through the hills between beautiful tea estates will be a nice experience for you. Most of the times you will experience the mist in the hills. It's really beautiful.

The road to Galboda F

Galboda waterfall is situated within one hour walking distance from the railway station. It is 30 meters in height, beautiful, virgin & ever young due to the high rainfall received to the catchments area through out the year.( the closest town is Watawala, where received the highest annual rainfall out of the country ). Therefore, not like other waterfalls, travelers are advised to visit Galboda waterfall in August, the dry season. Because the natural water pool is suit & safe for bath in dry seasons.

Fresh waters of Sri Lanka - Doluwa

Sri Lanka is a beautiful place with full of hidden beauties. This breathtaking place is such. If you are looking for a refreshing and a quiet place to spend some time with your loved ones, this is a place to be.

If you want to feel the amazing pure natural spring waters from the mountains and take a bath, think no more.

Here is the exact location of this place.

Located in a small town called Doluwa, about 10km away from both Peradeniya and Gampola cities. A car with a less ground clearance is not a good option to reach here. But a tuk-tuk, motorbike or a pickup truck is preferred. The narrow road is not built well, it's a bit steep and filled with gravel. So be careful on the way. A low ride isn't a good option here. And there is no separate parking available. But you can park your vehicle alongside the road.

You must take a walk along the stream to reach the exact spot. But you won't feel tired because it will be taken away from the beautiful surrounding passing by.

Walking through the jungle and climbing through the cliffs and rocks is a nice experience.

This place is not famous. It's mostly known only by the people live nearby. But some groups of kids and teenagers often visit here to have a refreshing bath and to have some fun with their colleagues.

And you will not find any shops or hotels to grab some food or drinks. So make sure you pack up some snacks in case you feel hungry or thirsty.

The water in this stream is extremely pure and clear. It's not disturbed or polluted by people. The water flows through the jungle from the beginning, therefore it's naturally chilled. And you are not allowed to go back without having a refreshing bath in this awesome waters. You can swim without any hesitation. It's not deep. maximum depth is about 6ft. And everywhere it's not more than 5ft.

And there is no dirt in this place. You can freshen up yourself without any problem. And this place is quite nice to have some food or snacks. The fresh air will make you overwhelmed. Make sure to spend some quality time around this place before you leave. You and your friends or family will definitely enjoy here.

Finally, my advice is to be safe throughout the journey, and PLEASE do not make this place dirty and unpleasant. If you take polyethene, plastic, glass or any non-biodegradable items please do not throw them here. Make sure to thrash them properly.

Have good fun and make sure to leave a comment. I will be writing more about hidden beautiful places on this beautiful island. Contact me if you need further information.

Have fun! Take care!

    Transportation

  • Cars on rent are available in all major cities of Srilanka.
  • Hotels
There are several options for enjoying a comfortable and luxurious stay amidst gorgeous beach side. Popular hotels at Ambalangoda include:
  • Hotel Lalanika
  • Ambalangoda Rest House
  • Sun Oriental Resorts

  • Arugam Bay

    District: Ampara

    Typical Weather: Warm & Sunny
    Dist. from Colombo: 314 km

Arugam Bay is a bay situated on the Indian Ocean in the dry zone of Sri Lanka's southeast coast. The bay is located 320 km due east of Colombo. It is a popular surfing and tourist destination. Many of the buildings were destroyed in the 2004 tsunami. Due to its popularity among tourists, the area has managed a slow recovery by private initiatives only. The main road through town has still not been repaved. As late as the beginning of 2010 no help has been received from any official source or international organizations. An exception is uncoordinated support for fishing folk as well as many school rebuilding programs, resulting in a continuation to provide only separatist schools for each community. Although there is a huge demand for an international school, one huge new building donated by the people of Japan remains unoccupied since the grand 'opening' ceremony in 2007.The bay hosts a large fleet of fishing boats which operates off the beach. Many organizations donated boats after the tsunami and as a result there are far more fishing boats than ever before. The main beach is a bit dirty as it is used as a garbage dump and a toilet by some locals. Nearby beaches are more esthetically pleasing and also have excellent waves. Arugam Surf Point has a very long, consistent, sectiony right hand break. Many organizations claim to have done extensive work in the area. No notable progress can be observed locally and on close inspection, as late as New Year's Day, 2010. The main road, shown below in 2004 still looks the very same at the end of 2009. Despite calls for a walking street contractors have commenced construction of a fast trunk road through the hamlet. Repeating the mistakes made in other seaside tourist resorts such as Negombo and Hikkaduwa. US 'Mercy Corps' has been the most active of any organization. Funded by Oprah Winfrey's 'Angel Network', following a huge fund-raising TV series in the United States. Sadly, none of their projects survived the first year of operation. A new bridge has been constructed by USAID. It was opened for traffic in 2008. It replaced the 1960s, original landmark box girder construction linking Arugam Bay with Pottuvil. At km 313 on the main A4 (the famous Colombo High Level Rd. - PottuVille), an excellent shortcut side road exists, which ends up in the very middle of Arugam Bay itself. This picturesque drive avoids the dusty town of PottuVille. Also no bridges need to be crossed. Raising questions regarding the wisdom for the need of the so-called 'high tech' USAID bridge construction. There is excellent elephant viewing nearby, incl. on this mentioned jungle road and the surrounding lagoon, as well as two types of monkeys wandering around the area. The nearby (4 km) Muslim village of Pottuville is the center of commerce and transportation while tourist accommodations lie along the beach to the south of Pottuville Arugam Bay (4 km) is also the gateway and the only road access to the Yala East National Park. This area is known as Kumana (44 km), to be reached via the Sinhalese settlement of Panama (17 km) and the shires at Okanda (32 km). Sources of further, up-to-date local information: Arugam Bay has its own insiders, veteran and fan club (777 members end 2008, risen to 5,500 members in August, 2009). History was made on election day, 26 January 2010. The Community page Facebook page "Arugam Surf" managed to attract more than 10,000 loyal fans. Making it the fasted growing (non political) Face Book site in Sri Lanka. Remarkable for such a small, remote hamlet with just 2,500 residents.

Average temperatures in the shade are:
